Symposium Summary
In its debut in 2008, the Take Action symposium launched the first west coast event of its kind exploring an emerging and dynamic new industry operating at the intersection of profit maximization and philanthropy. Continuing the series, this second invitation-only, three-day Take Action symposium facilitates peer conversations among industry leaders and trustees, CFOs and investment staff of foundations, pension funds and corporations.
Dialogue will revolve around investments that generate at least market-rate or premium returns as well as social and environmental value. Leading practitioners and global financial experts share their candid experiences and engage in pointed conversations about the unresolved and debated issues and its potential evolution.
During the event, participants are empowered to make decisions, take action, and explore partnerships. The results are critical insights, collaborations and relevant advice that stay with you well after the symposium ends.
What’s New?
Thanks to enthusiastic and thoughtful participant and speaker feedback from 2008, we’ve refined the 2009 symposium to be better and bolder. Join our committed community of impact investors.
Questions to be addressed include:
- How did impact investments perform vis-à-vis “traditional” investments?
- Where are top investors and leading practitioners finding value investments and creating value? Is their advantage sustainable?
- How did foundations and asset managers adjust (or not) their impact investing strategy in response to last year's economic shocks?
- Do impact investors know something about creating value and infusing integrity down the entire value chain that provides an unprecedented opportunity to reshape the way that capitalism works?
- What, if anything, do the Stimulus Package and the Obama Administration mean for your investments?
- Given current options, what are appropriate strategies for you and your investments?
- How do you reflect your interests in key issue areas (e.g., climate change and poverty eradication) in a portfolio that matches your risk-reward profile?
- What are your next steps?
Why Attend?
This symposium is the only three-day event on the West Coast for both seasoned impact investors and new practitioners to:
- Provide hands-on, facilitated working sessions that are candid, practical, collaborative, and innovative;
- Learn, share, and debate ideas in an informal and candid setting;
- Understand the true risks and rewards of this emerging field; and
- Take Action on your next steps
Don’t miss out on this unparalleled opportunity.
What is Impact Investing?
Where business meets philanthropy with a bang. Impact investments generate financial returns while also creating positive social and environmental change aligned with an investor’s mission and/or values. These include changes or impacts on the environment and climate, the unbanked or underbanked (domestically and internationally) and health.
